Do you remembered the other week in my ‘Hidden Gems of the Gaming World’ post about Rock Band 3 when I mentioned the game’s poor sales?
Well it turns out that the sales were so poor that Rock Band’s developer, Harmonix, was being sold off by their parent company, Viacom (owners of MTV).
Like a lot of people, I figured that it would mean the end of the greatest music-game franchise ever know but never fear (!) as Harmonix have bought themselves from Viacom and have decided to go indie.
Here’s a quote from the developer themselves

We’re excited to be returning to our roots as an independent and privately owned studio. As for what it means for you, the DLC schedule marches on for Rock Band, we will continue our support of previously released titles and we’re hard at work on some unannounced projects that we think you’re going to be pumped about.
Well I for one am a HUGE fan of Harmonix so I’m glad that they won’t be closing up shop and will instead be living on as an indie studio and Ill; be supporting them in the future because I know that with or without a mega-corporation for a parent company backing them, their games will still be great!
