Video games, saving the world? I know, madness!
It’s something that would have fearers and despisers of video games (also known as ‘da haterz’, to you and I), who regularly renounce the merits of our favourite form of media, running for the hills.
I mean ‘saving the world’ in a figurative sense – there’s little that Final Fantasy can do besides making the coiffed male beehive hairstyle popular again – but it could help to make a serious impact on how video games are seen by the rest of the world (i.e not as a geeky, pointless habit and instead as a respected form of media) which could in turn have some serious impacts on the economy and other important world saving stuff.
This is why I’m urging you to get involved and also why it’s featured as this week’s Song of the Week.

So there’s a neat little project going on right now that is aiming to set up a hall of fame of the greatest pieces of classical music and in support of a campaign by some very determined gamers who want to get some gaming recognition in the list, I’m calling on you to vote for a piece of classical music that was featured in one of the Final Fantasy games.
To vote, for the track, go to Classic FM Hall of Fame and vote for ‘Aerith’s Theme’ from Final Fantasy VII, the track by the insanely talented Nobuo Uematsu (manually enter it into the list) – voting ends on the 29th of February so tell your friends – we really need to win this thing – for the sake of gamers everywhere!
(And did I mention that voting could have you win an iPad 2?)
Please use the share buttons on your left to encourage your friends to vote too (and help increase the song’s chances of winning!)
