Some games are all talk, with gimmicks out the wazoo like a marketer gone mad and features that they just can’t back up. NBA 2K14 is most definitely not one of those games. While other sports sims are happy to stick trademarked titles over their new features, this NBA 2K14 video just wants to show them off and when they look this good and can be supported with real, actual gameplay, 2K would be crazy not to.
New Consoles, New NBA 2K14
While NBA 2K14 on PS4 and Xbox One might not literally be a brand new game from the current gen release – that would be an impressive but grandiose feat for the 2K Sports team given the month between games – it might feel like it. One of our biggest high points and biggest criticisms of the game in our NBA 2K14 PS3 review was that while the game’s atmosphere felt real as ever, the crowd lacked substance, calling it an “ugly blemish” in an otherwise very good looking game. We already know that the game’s upgraded next-gen graphics, running on the PS4’s 8GB RAM will make the court’s surroundings look less like a stage background in a storm and 2K are keen to show off that the atmosphere has somehow been improved upon too, with a new NBA 2K14 video explaining how player emotions brings the King of basketball sims to life.
We’ve Seen Eco-Motion But What Can It Do?
It’s unlikely that all of NBA 2K14’s gameplay on next-gen will be Lebron James putting on his championship winning gameface (although he is the highest rated player in the title, so you can never be sure of these things) but that shiny Eco-Motion Engine will also be responsible for a better flow of gameplay, with 2K even saying that no two animations in the game will appear the same.
But it’s not just how the game looks, it’s how it plays, as Eco-Motion will also be responsible for the players’ reactions to their emotions, so for example that could mean your players stepping up in crunch time as the clock winds down in the fourth or an extra bit of aggression that could very well result in your players committing more fouls. It’s just that unpredictable that NBA 2K14 practically mirrors the real thing like for like and when the game launches later this month, we’ll all get to see it in action for ourselves.
The NBA 2K14 release date is November 15th on PS4 and November 22nd Xbox One.
