“The Injustice saga is finally complete,” says the narrator of this Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition trailer and by the power invested in Batman’s trusty toolbelt, you’d better believe him, lest one of his super-friends power punch you around the moon for talking ill about NetherRealm Studios’ upgraded beat-em-up. It’s set to be a launch title for the PS4, a new game for PS Vita and a re-release for PS3 and Xbox 360, giving fans of DC’s famed cast of heroes and villains a chance to punch the supersnot out of each other before standalone story titles get granted to all of them. Needless to say, it’s out on those platforms soon and Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition has gotten a lovely new trailer to explain what’s so special about its special powers.
Super? Ultimate? What’s In It For Us Mere Mortals?
Blessed with just paltry salary packages and blood that bleeds a rather mundane shade of red, the benefits in Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition actually extends to far more than getting to inhabit the boots of the DC universe’s finest. Added in with the original game that was released on PS3 and Xbox 360, in picking up the Ultimate Edition details in the trailer above, you also get the following:
- Touch-to-control abilities (the Dualshock 4’s touchpad can be utilised at certain points in the game, with the PS Vita’s touchscreen being the handheld equivalent)
- All 47 alternate costumes and skins will be unlocked (including those released as DLC)
- 60 extra S.T.A.R Labs missions
- Collectible Hero Cars (on PS Vita)
- Ad-hoc and Wi-Fi multiplayer (on PS Vita)
Batman, Wonder Woman and All of Their Friends Walk Into a Bar…
One of the greatest things about Injustice: Gods Among Us is that character roster, which gives you a chance to play as all of your male and female favourites from DC’s long and illustrious comic book history. It’s unlikely that you tallied them all in the trailer but the cast features not only the Dark Knight but demi-god Wonder Woman is also up for kicking some ass, along with Harley Quinn, who’s apparently fed up of playing second fiddle to The Joker, plus feline representing badass, Catwoman. While there are some noticeable omissions particularly in the form of Batwoman, one of DC’s most popular characters, who is also a fan favourite and a queer woman, the good representation of women does just enough, in our books to espouse the comic book boys club.
We’ll also note that while Injustice: Gods Among Us is light on people of colour, that’s mostly the case of the source material but Raven, despite being half-demon is mostly agreed to be of colour and John Stewart is a black Green Lantern who gets a shout as one of the game’s unlocked skins, which will have to do until DC gets its act together.
In any case, the game is looking good and will be a worthy addition the PS4 and PS Vita’s already stellar collection of games and a boost to those on PS3 or Xbox 360 who missed the game the first time around.
The Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition release date is November 12th for Xbox 360, PS3 and PS Vita and November 15th on PS4.
