According to reports, the answer to that question is very much yes. Lara Croft could soon be back, kicking ass, taking names and breaking down gender stereotypes and expectations as Tomb Raider once again, but this time on PS4 and Xbox One. We’ve got the details after the break.
Port of Call: Next-Gen Consoles
Originally listed on Amazon Italy (thought both of the listings have since been taken down) is Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, set to be a definitive PS4 and Xbox One port of the female fronted game that we enjoyed earlier this year. But, not willing to mar the hype of the brand new Tomb Raider title that we know Crystal Dynamics are also working on, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will include this year’s game, along with all of the DLC that’s been released for it and is reportedly set to be released on the 24th of January, 2014.
As stated, the listings have been removed since everyone caught wind of it (oh you pesky eagle eyed reporters, you), but the fact that it stated that Amazon pre-orders of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition would also include an exclusive artbook suggests that it is happening. Oh, and there’s also the fact that Square Enix have effectively confirmed it in a statement…
Square Enix Respond
Not wanting to let this fire fizzle out, Square Enix have handed us a jerry can of gasoline with the cap taken off by stating that “It’s so hard to keep a secret these days! [Square Enix] appreciate all of the enthusiasm, however [they] don’t have any details to share just yet. That said, [Square Enix] highly recommend [that we] keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December.”
Those with your calendars up to date will note that “early December” also happens to be the date of the Spike VGX (formerly VGAs), the notorious video game awards show where announcements about new titles are usually made, so we’ll look forward to hearing about what could be another great (but much-needed) addition to the PS4 and Xbox One’s lineup of games with female protagonists soon.
