Uh-oh, well this is awkward, for EA and BioWare at least. Several weeks ago there was a leak in which one sneaky E3 attendee recorded the invite only viewing of Dragon Age: Inquisition’s E3 gameplay demo, complete with commentary from BioWare themselves. They managed to get out and upload it like the jammiest of dodgers before it was taken down a little while after but never fear! EA and BioWare have released an official version of that same Dragon Age: Inquisition gameplay scenario meaning that none of those camera-in-hand jitters are present here and you can also view it in 1080p HD. Watch the video after the break.
Dragon Age: Inquisition Gameplay Walkthrough Part One
Alas, some may have seen the above video before but that’s not such a bad thing as several new parts are also on the way. Presumably narrated by someone other than Mike Laidlaw (Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Creative Director, who narrates the above footage), it will be great to get more of a look at the game in action, especially as the truly open-world environments of the title (it’s even bigger than the previous two Dragon Age games combined) look gorgeous as ever and this is just alpha footage.
What will also be interesting to see is whether or not the targeted attacking only works for larger monsters. It would be fantastic if localised attacks on all monsters and enemies had an effect, for example if facing off against bipedal bad guys, fireballing the ligaments out of their legs would see them limping around the battlefield but perhaps BioWare only have the resources to do that for boss battles such as the High Dragon fight above.
What Else Is In Store?
As a whole, battle gameplay seems to be far more solid than in the previous Dragon Age titles although while ‘Focus’ seems to be an intriguing concept (as Laidlaw explains it can be built up through teamwork to take down enemies easier) what constitutes ‘teamwork’ in actual play will be another story. As will successfully pulling it off on the fly, without having to constantly check if teamwork is what you’re managing to do or not.
These are all things that will be address no doubt in future parts of the Dragon Age: Inquisition gameplay walkthrough videos though, so check back on the blog regularly for those.
