There’s a handful of things that we loved about The Sims franchise. It lets us have same-sex relationships and marriages, we can take on any career path we want from rockstar to sticky fingered criminal, we can destroy livelihoods and meet alien life-forms all in the ultimate life simulation game. But, the very best thing that we can do is kill off our sims. Like the Grim Reaper with a vampiric thirst for blood, sim murder has always been one of the very best things to do whether we removed stairs from pools (should have brought your floatees, sucker!), packed a house full of electrical appliances or just made our sims pee themselves to death in a room with no windows or doors. The Sims 4 won’t make that any less fun (although watery deaths are off the cards for now as EA have removed the feature) and as this new trailer shows, there are going to be more hilarious and incredibly sadistic ways to to kill of our characters come next month.
The Sims 4 ‘Epic Wood’ Trailer
Give a woman a plank of wood, she’ll get splinters for a day but teach her basic carpentry and she’ll make a wooden palace.
That’s what EA and Maxis are going for in The Sims 4 as everything is about ‘the story’ rather than the attribute pips we allot in our character’s personalities to deem whether they’ll wash the dishes up with a smile or let them go mouldy in the sink. They want us to come up with unbelievable tales to tell our friends or post on YouTube as much as they want us to live boring 9-to-5 lives.
We know quite a bit how that will work out, with just three weeks until The Sims 4’s release and the above trailer only showcases that. What happens when that nice plasma TV short circuits in a house made entirely of wood? Bye bye Sim character, that’s what, as her dream to build the world’s most termite friendly living space could result in her untimely demise. Do we as creators let her follow her dreams or do we let her get burnt to ashes? Again, that’s parts of The Sims 4’s stories.
The Sims 4 on Consoles
It would be a shame if PC players got *all* the death trap fun though, which is why it’s very good news indeed that The Sims 4 could be coming to consoles.
As it stands, The Sims 4 is “only coming to PC at the moment…” but The Sims 4 Producer Ryan Vaughan told MCV that they will “explore the possibility of it coming to other platforms” once the game has been released.
The Sims 3 made it onto consoles just over a year after the PC release so there’s still hope for castles of carpentry to make it onto PS4 and Xbox One. For now though, you can peep The Sims 4 release date info below.
The Sims 4 will be released on September 5th for PC. Click here to pre-order it.
