To put it bluntly, Assassin’s Creed Unity has been a bit of a mess. There were abysmal framerate drops (Unity reportedly dropped below 10 frames per second, far lower than the 30 FPS Ubisoft once showed off), graphical issues (character faces fell apart) and connection issues with Ubisoft’s servers that stopped players from doing things such as opening chests. Despite patches, the problems with the game are on-going and Ubisoft has even had to give away free Unity DLC and free Ubisoft titles to apologise. It’s with good reason that many are discussing how future AC games will fare and now the next game Assassin’s Creed: Victory has been confirmed.
Assassin’s Creed: Victory Leaks
The information about the game is per a Kotaku source. The leak out of Ubisoft’s development house says that Assassin’s Creed: Victory will be set in Victorian London and so the smoggy industrial era streets will be our brand new playground.
The publication also reportedly has access to a 7-minute long presentation video that is of such a high quality that it could be presented at a game show e.g E3 (or even The Games Awards which will be taking place this Friday).
Per that footage, we have a good idea of what Assassin’s Creed: Victory will offer us. In addition to those dirty streets, we’ll see Big Ben (Big Ben is the name of the bell but we’ll at least see the clock tower that the bell is hosted in), the River Thames and the Charing Cross railway station. In these locations we’ll be fighting on vehicles (including moving trains and buggies), swinging about with a brand new grappling hook and, as always, we’ll be fighting Templars.
As for the protagonist that we’ll be controlling, Kotaku‘s report didn’t have much info on that. All that we do know is that Victory‘s protagonist is a he and judging by the brief glimpses of a hand in the above screenshots, the new lead will be white too.
Furthermore, Assassin’s Creed: Victory will be hosted on Ubi’s Anvil engine (which is the same engine responsible for Unity, just in case you weren’t worried about Victory‘s quality already) and is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec who have previously worked on some Assassin’s Creed DLC. There’s even talk of Victory being a PC, PS4 and Xbox One only game (just like Unity) but unlike this year, no PS3/Xbox 360 companion is being worked on.
Ubisoft Confirms Assassin’s Creed: Victory
Also, it appears that all of this info is legit. Ubisoft have been sending out the following statement to everybody:
“It is always unfortunate when internal assets, not intended for public consumption, are leaked. And, while we certainly welcome anticipation for all of our upcoming titles, we’re disappointed for our fans, and our development team, that this conceptual asset is now public. The team in our Quebec studio has been hard at work on the particular game in question for the past few years, and we’re excited to officially unveil what the studio has been working on at a later date. In the meantime, our number one priority is enhancing the experience of Assassin’s Creed Unity for players.”
I have to say, it seems highly suspicious that Ubisoft would have a statement prepped and ready to go this quickly. The story only broke in the last three hours or so and Ubisoft has been incredibly quick to confirm it.
What is entirely likely is that this is a coordinated effort to deflect the heat about Unity‘s piss poor performance. But this seems a bit soon to start putting the hype machine in motion, even my Ubisoft’s standards.
In any case, I’ll keep you posted on the last Assassin’s Creed: Victory news so stay tuned to the blog for more.
