Founded all the way back in 2000, Double Fine have been making great games for yonks. A good handful of their games fall into the ‘critically acclaimed’ category that us games media types are always boasting about, including family friendly Halloween adventures Costume Quest and Costume Quest 2, the Jack Black-led Brutal Legend and the matryoshka collecting fun of Stacking. These are just a small handful of titles from Double Fine’s portfolio/what those game design wizards are cooking up right now (they have one game in episodic development and another in Early Access) but the point is that a great many of these games are now on sale on Steam! Head after the break to find out more.
Double Fine Steam Publisher Sale
There are two ways of saving your pennies in the Double Fine Steam sale – you can either buy games for an individual discount or purchase the Double Fine Bundle which groups some of their biggest hits together into one affordable package. The bundle includes: Brutal Legend, Costume Quest, Stacking, Iron Brigade and Psychonauts for £5.39 (or $7 in United States prices) and both the bundle and the individual games are discounted by 80% off of the normal price.
Other (non bundle) picks from the Double Fine sale include Hack ‘n’ Slash which sees you play as a female protagonist who can hack into the very game world itself. For example, have you come across an enemy that has it out for you? Set its attack to 0 so that its attacks won’t do damage, or, you could just change its movement stat so that it can’t move and won’t hurt you unless you walk directly into it. You’re rewriting the game itself with that so there’s the opportunity for endless replayability. It’s now £3.39 (66% off the normal price) in the sale.
There’s also Massive Chalice which is a turn based tactical strategy game where you’re in charge of your army and the little lives behind each soldier. Naturally, that involves marrying them off to produce offspring with desirable combat attributes which will make you feel like God or like a meddling lunatic depending on how ingenious you think that game mechanic is. There’s also the ability to pair up same-gender couples, though as they themselves don’t state their sexualities nor can they produce offspring with each other it seems like an unusual choice. Massive Chalice is in Steam Early Access though so this could change for the better. It’s now £15.40 (33% off the normal price) in the sale.
It’s also important to note that the Double Fine Steam sale won’t last forever – the clock is ticking and the discounts only have 41 hours to (as of the time of writing) so click that link to take advantage of the discounts before they end.
