When we want to play epic RPGs that we can sink all of our time into, mobile is the last place we look. The battery lives are inconvenient and if we’re honest, no one’s really expecting Skyrim-esque graphics on such a small screen. But tactical RPG Devils & Demons has been a surprise mobile hit, offering satisfying combat and rich lore on smartphones and tablets.
Thankfully, after its highly rated stint on iOS and Android, Devils & Demons has found a publisher and is coming to PC. You can find out more about the game after the break.
Devils & Demons on PC
A game like this is only as strong as its lore and in typical RPG fashion, Devils & Demons‘ plot is centered around magic. According to developer HandyGames, the world of Desola was at the “height of its glory” but then a demonic portal opened and spoiled the fun. Monsters and men have been fighting it out but as “endless streams of diabolic reapers brought death and despair to humankind” and the human army is significantly outnumbered, it’s up to the player to put together a crack team of heroes to stop the world from falling apart.
Gameplay is divided up into fighting, looting and recruiting as you go on quests and try to encourage heroes of all sorts of classes to join the good fight. You’ll have to think wisely about who you recruit though, as enemies have different classes too (some bosses include necromancers and dragons) so part of Devils & Demons’ tactical gameplay will probably involve putting together the best team for each battle. Battles are turn based, also.
The obvious concern with Devils & Demons is that it will be ‘just another mobile port’. However, Headup Games (publisher of Meridian: New World and Trapped Dead: Lockdown) is handling the PC version and there will also be cutscenes, artworks, voiced characters and an orchestral soundtrack, so this is far deeper than your average Candy Crush.
Devils & Demons will be released later in 2015.
