Following the (thoroughly broken) launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity last year, an insider leak revealed that Ubisoft was working on a new game called Assassin’s Creed Victory that would be set in London. Seven months later and we’ve now got an official reveal, along with a new name. Introducing: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
What’s the deal with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate‘s playable female character? What’s putting the fire into our assassins’ bellies, encouraging them to fight for freedom and justice? And what are the new ways we can kill our enemies? All of these questions are answered after the jump.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Announced
As revealed in new promo content from Ubisoft (click here for a gameplay walkthrough from the devs), Assassin’s Creed Syndicate stars Jacob and Evie Frye, two twin assassins taking London by storm in the middle of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution, while it brought Britain into the modern era (see: railways and electricity), was also a time of serious poverty as the rich got richer and the poor were forced to do hard labour, die, or die in the process of doing hard labour as was the case for many young children.
Looking for some serious industrial reform, the Frye twins will need to defeat the Templar-controlled gangs in the seven boroughs of London. Jacob will do this by being a total brawler, headbutts, brass knuckles and all, but he can also use his Assassin’s Gauntlet to shoot hallucinogenic darts at enemies to make them attack each other . His rope dart can also help him climb in a hurry and he can shoot at obstacles (such as pallets) and have them crash onto enemy heads. Evie, on the other hand, is apparently more calculated, though we’ve yet to see her in action.
Ah yes, Evie. It’s been confirmed that Evie will be playable in the game, which does help to make up for Unity‘s lack of playable women. We’ll be able to run around London as either of the Frye twins, but when it comes to story missions, we’ll be forced to play as either/or. Kotaku says that the story missions will be split 75% to 25% in Jacob’s favour, which is a shame, but baby steps!
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will be released on October 23 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
