Rise of the Tomb Raider has been a very much talked about game since it was announced at E3 last year. But the game, which stars Lara Croft as she recovers from the traumatic events on Yamatai in Tomb Raider (2013), hasn’t necessarily been talked about for the right reasons. Instead, much of the conversation surrounding the game has regarded the timed exclusivity deal with Microsoft in which Rise of the Tomb Raider will only be available on Xbox One for a certain amount of time.
Because of that, most of Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s gameplay and story aspects have been swept under the rug, such as the fact that there will be supernatural ‘guardian’ creatures which Lara will have to defeat before she gets into tombs. But in this new Rise of the Tomb Raider cinematic, that exclusivity deal will be the very last thing on your mind.
Rise of the Tomb Raider Cinematic Trailer Released
In the trailer, we see that Lara clearly isn’t resting on her laurels, despite several team members being killed in the last game (including her long-time mentor) and her best friend being kidnapped by madman and then being possessed by an evil spirit. And that’s not even including all of the things that have occurred in the Tomb Raider comics which aimed to bridge the gap between Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
So other than getting to play as the most brave version of Lara Croft yet, what else can we expect from Rise of the Tomb Raider when it’s released later this year? Well RoTR will build on the hunting mechanic from the last game as the Siberian setting now features a robust ecosystem. For example, certain animals only come out at night (such as the alpha wolf) and we will be able to track them using the snow; but new snow will fall and cover them up, so we’ll have to act quickly.
There’s also some sort of ‘oasis’ setting that sits outside of Siberia’s frozen setting and offers different temperatures and weather to the chilly climes that we would expect. Very little is known about this oasis but from the sounds of it, it will somehow tie into Lara’s hunt for the mythical city of Kitezh.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released on Xbox One later in 2015. More info on the game will be shared at Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference on June 15.
