One of the most promising things about the release of the PS4 and the Xbox One is the greater focus on indie games. With these new consoles, games like Woolfe get to be on the same stage as Halo 5 and Hellblade is shown off alongside Uncharted 4. It gives indie developers a chance and we get to play something that’s a little more on the wild side.
Submerged is one such game that benefits from all of this. The indie adventure from Uppercut Games is running on Unreal Engine 4 and looks absolutely incredible. Thankfully, we’ll get to play it sooner rather than later as the developer has confirmed that Submerged will launch on PS4 and Xbox One this summer.
Submerged Release Date
Submerged follows two siblings – Miku and Taku – as they have to survive in a city that has “mysteriously” flooded and has become overgrown. When they get to the city, Taku is already sick and so it’s up to Miku to both nurse her brother back to health, using their boat, her telescope, and her climbing skills to locate resources and traverse the city to go and retrieve them.
Uppercut Games also explains that as she explores Submerged‘s setting, “Miku starts to uncover the secrets of how this world came to be. And in turn, we begin to learn about Miku and Taku: what drove them to this mysterious city, where the only inhabitants appear to be malformed copies of the native sea-life?”. Given that the game seems quite straightforward (presumably it’ll go by quickly if you only focus on healing Taku) the mysteries and secrets could be what keeps us hooked for ages.
In the latest Uppercut Games newsletter, the developer says that they are just “chasing down the final bugs, slotting in the localisation and playtesting the heck out of it on every platform.” So that ‘summer 2015’ release date is quite vague, but Submerged clearly isn’t far away.
Submerged will be released on PS4 and Xbox One in summer 2015.
