Fallout 4 is one of the worst kept secrets in gaming. Fallout 3 sold 4.7 million copies in its first week on sale and Fallout: New Vegas sold 5 million in its first fortnight and both games were critically acclaimed, garnering Game of the Year awards from almost every publication out there. And so it was inevitable that Bethesda would announced Fallout 4 at some point; it just didn’t make sense for them not to.
Yesterday was the official reveal of the game, after what seemed like the longest build up in history (people have been promising a Fallout 4 announcement for several years now). The first Fallout 4 trailer is after the break, along with location info and gameplay details.
Fallout 4 Announced
While that trailer doesn’t say anything explicitly, with text overlays and a voice-over, it does clue us in on what we’ll be doing and where will be going when Fallout 4 is released. Namely, we know that Fallout 4 is set in Boston, Massachusetts as the trailer features the city’s famous Paul Revere statue, the Massachusetts State House, and the Bunker Hill Monument. A modified version of the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) ship can also be spotted, and since that resides at the Boston Navy Yard, that’s a dead giveaway.
It’s also being suggested that players may have a central base to go to, as the garage in the trailer looks like the perfect spot to store loot and work on upgrades. The trailer also showed off one sort of helicopter-like vehicle, so we may even be able to fly around the Fallout 4 map too.
That trailer certainly got people excited for the game, but some are a bit concerned about what they saw in the trailer. Those graphics, for example, don’t look particularly impressive and given that Fallout 4 is a game on current-gen and has been in development for several years, many fans are saying that they expect more. They’re right there, as although the game will be absolutely massive, if Bethesda’s other current-gen game The Elder Scrolls Online can handle decent graphics (and that’s online as well) then Fallout 4 should look just as good.
Fallout 4 will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. More information about the game will be revealed at Bethesda’s E3 conference on June 14.
