When Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was announced earlier this year, many people were pleasantly surprised. Not only was the game set in Victorian London, a setting that fans have been asking for for quite some time, but it also featured a playable female protagonist which is a first for a main Assassin’s Creed game. Plus, given that Assassin’s Creed Unity caused controversy with its lack of playable female characters, the decision to let players run around London as either Jacob Frye or his twin sister Evie was considered a huge win.
However, Ubisoft didn’t win everyone over with their reveal of Evie as she seemed to take a backseat to her brother. Not only was she not featured much in the reveal trailer, but the special editions of the game featured no Evie-related merchandise and one report suggested that Evie would only be playable in around 25% of the game’s main campaign. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case at last night as at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, Evie was front and centre in her very own Assassin’s Creed Syndicate trailer.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Evie Frye Trailer + PS4 Exclusive Missions
Evie and Jacob may be twins but their fighting styles couldn’t be more opposite. While Jacob takes down Assassin’s Creed Syndicate‘s enemies with rash, reactionary violence (he’s a huge fan of brass knuckles in particular), Evie is more meticulous and calculated. As we see in the above trailer, Evie’s all about those quick kills that come out of nowhere and don’t give her enemies a chance – I much prefer her style of play to her brother’s as it keeps to AC‘s stealth roots, so here’s hoping that the campaign is more evenly split between the two leads than that report suggested.
During the Sony press conference it was also revealed that on PS4, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate players would get an exclusive set of missions called ‘The Dreadful Crimes’. There will be ten Dreadful Crimes missions in all, and they will be based on the work of a world-famous detective novelist. Neither Sony nor Ubisoft has officially confirmed that the missions will be about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series, but that seems like the only logical possibility.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will be released on October 23, 2015 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
