As a game with over 65 million active players, League of Legends developer Riot Games is constantly adding new things in order to keep everybody entertained. For example, this week Riot is hosting the Team Up/Pool Party event, the Hexakill game mode came and went, and lots of new champion skins have had us spending our Riot Points.
But that’s not all as Riot has also introduced several new League of Legends champions. Tunnelling alien Rek’Sai was released back in December, jovial support Bard was released in March, and time-twisting assassin Ekko was released earlier this month. The developer clearly isn’t done shaking up the meta, though, as another new champion called ‘The River King’ has now been teased.
New League of Legends Champion, The River King
Given that the League of Legends character depicted in that video has an antenna and lives in the river, some have suggested that Riot may just be reworking river-dwelling jungle enemy, the scuttle crab. However, the scuttle crab isn’t hostile, its antennas are on top of its head not near its mouth like a creepy moustache, and it doesn’t wear a top hat either. Plus, the scuttle crab does actually appear in the trailer and it looks completely different to the monster that the video is talking about, so that scuppers that idea.
Instead, there’s a lot of evidence that suggests that a) this character will be a new League of Legends champion and b) that they will be called Tamm, The River King. After patch 5.11, players noted that if you type the /laugh command into the chat box while standing near the river, you will hear a menacing laugh just like that in the teaser. Furthermore, the 5.11 patch notes also included this:
“And that about encapsulates the contents of this patch. For those of you struggling to keep up in your “games of League, we’re always striving to ensure you won’t be stuck up the river without a paddle. That said, if conventional means don’t work, be careful who you call when seeking help; there’s all sorts of things out there, preying on the wishes of desperate people. Mope, and you mope alone – laugh, and the world laughs with you. Or so they say.”
There’s not a lot to go on here but the best guess is that The River King will have a rivalry with Twisted Fate (who is well-known for being a card player) and that he will be a tanky jungler. Seeing as jungle tanks Hecarim and Sejuani have both been nerfed this year (along with the CinderHulk item), and Ekko is quite weak, health-wise, Tamm, The River King could be the perfect addition to the League of Legends champion roster.
Which lane do you think Tamm will be played in? Is Riot releasing too many champions? Leave a comment and let us know.
