When Fallout 4 was announced ahead of E3 2015, that was incredible, as fans had been begging Bethesda to make it since Fallout 3 came out. Then, at Bethesda’s actual E3 2015 press conference, when they announced that Fallout 4 would be out in November, that was even better. But when you’ve been waiting years for a game to be released, even four or so months can seem like forever.
So to tide us over until then, Bethesda released Fallout Shelter. A free to play mobile app that lets you manage your own Vault-Tec vault (as well as the people in it), Fallout Shelter has been massively successful, even knocking Candy Crush Saga off of the top spot. It also has 70 million play sessions a day – so get ready to become even more addicted as Fallout Shelter is about to introduce a new character from Fallout 4.
Fallout Shelter Introduces Fallout 4’s ‘Preston Garvey’
The new character in question is a fellow named Preston Garvey, who joins the game along with his Laser Musket weapon (both Garvey and his gun are pictured at the top of this post). In Fallout 4, Preston is the leader of the Commonwealth Minutemen faction, which means he’s a real tough cookie and is a valuable addition to your Fallout Shelter crew.
However, finding Preston isn’t going to be easy as he’s a ‘Legendary Dweller’. What this means is that you’ll need to open a Fallout Shelter ‘lunchbox’ to get him. Lunchboxes are rewarded to players just through playing the game naturally, however they are also purchasable via in-game microtransactions, so if you don’t fancy the grind, you can always just pay for a better chance at getting him.
Some players are already disgruntled that Bethesda isn’t just gifting Preston Garvey to everyone as a reward for playing the game a lot but on the bright side, you aren’t at too much of a disadvantage if he hasn’t joined your vault yet.
Fallout Shelter is now available for free on iOS devices. An Android version of the game is in development.
