Each year, Call of Duty gets bigger and bolder, doing even more crazy things to get our attention. Last year’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was a pretty big deal, what with its special exo-suit powers, but Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be even bigger as it turns soldiers into the weapons themselves.
In the game’s multiplayer, we will be able to customise our ‘specialists’ and load out with a special weapon or a special power, such as a crossbow that shoots explosive arrows, or the ability to self-revive. That could really change the face of play and so it’s important that publisher Activision and developer Treyarch gets it right. That’s why a Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta is taking place – and you can find out more after the break.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Beta – August 19
As confirmed in a tweet from Treyarch themselves, the Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta will begin on August 19, 2015. It will be available to anyone who pre-orders Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, though it will be on PS4 first, with PC and Xbox One betas launching at a later date. Thank Sony for that, as they’ve got a exclusivity deal (similar to the one that Microsoft previously held) where PlayStation users get access to the beta and the game’s DLC before anyone else.
Treyarch boss Mark Lamia also had this to say on the beta: “We want people to play before it launches. The team is so excited to offer this opportunity, which is something the franchise hasn’t done since Call of Duty: World at War.”
I’m very much in favour of a Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta happening just because of the delicate balance that’s needed, to save everyone from becoming noob paste because certain specialist abilities are more overpowered than others. However, many people aren’t a fan of the fact that you have to pre-order the game to get in. Some players see it as having to pay/pledge support to do quality assurance on an in-development game and as The Elder Scrolls Online demonstrated when it was broken on PS4 and Xbox One at launch (following a beta), beta testing doesn’t always pay off either.
