DiscStorm, the upcoming arena combat/sports came from XMPT Games, could be one of the most exciting properties out this year. The game will be out in spring 2016 on PS Vita, but it’s coming to PC, Mac and Linux in August. You can find out more about it after the break.
DiscStorm Release Date
As mentioned, DiscStorm is an arena combat/sports hybrid. That’s perhaps not the most traditional of descriptions but it does fit the game perfectly as DiscStorm allows you to send flying discs about the place, in the hopes that you’ll hit your opponents.
DiscStorm seems to be the perfect game for PS Vita as although it’ll be tough to master, you’ll certainly spend countless hours of your commute trying. Plus, there’s a great variety of things on offer including several new characters (Navika, a DiscStorm prodigy, is the most recent addition to the roster), there’s a whole heap of different maps, including a haunted mansion and a pirate ship, and you’ll be able to put your skills to the test against the game’s many boss battles. Laser-shooting stone golems? Prepare to meet your maker.
Additionally, the game has local and online multiplayer. There are two modes, deathmatch (first to ten) and Regicide where players fight to control a crown. XMPT has said that they’ve purposely included five playable characters so that people don’t fight over them, which is nice, but on PS Vita the biggest challenge will probably be finding other players to play against in the first place. So for that, I suspect that some may choose the PC version instead, but it’s still a solid purchase on Sony’s handheld nonetheless.
DiscStorm will be released on August 20, 2015 on PC, Mac and Linux. The game will also be at Gamescom next month.
[UPDATE – Mastertronic has announced that DiscStorm will be available on PC/Mac/Linux from August 20, 2015. The PS Vita version of the game will be released in spring 2016, we have edited the post to reflect this.]
