League of Legends is a difficult game to master and even if you’ve spent hours in intro bots (a mode which pits you up against AI and teaches you the basics) you’ll still struggle. From figuring out who’s killing you and in what way (e.g with ignite or with poison), checking when you’ve levelled up and what your lane opponent is building, there’s a lot to keep up with too.
So to solve that problem, Riot Games will be introducing the League of Legends HUD update. The HUD update completely changes the in-game interface, making it far simpler for newcomers and pro players alike to keep tabs on the game at hand. Find out more after the break.
League of Legends HUD Update
The biggest thing you’ll notice about the HUD update is the fact that champion information is now right in the middle of the screen. Riot says that they’ve done that since that’s the place you look the most; perfect sense. You can hit ‘C’ to get a breakdown of advanced stats (your movement speed, health, attack speed etc.), your XP is clearly visible, ability icons are larger, and your items are front and centre too, which makes it easier to track which ones you can activate or not. There’s also a nifty notification that tells you when you’ve levelled up.
On the general interface (right above the mini-map) you can check which of your teammates is dead, if they have their ult up (the little light above their head will fill up according to the cooldown), as well as how much health and mana that they have. And you can also look at your enemies’ respawn timers, which can inform when you should go for dragon or baron.
The new tab menu (pictured above) also has a great deal of information with this HUD update. Now, you are able to line up players so that you can quickly compare yourselves to them. So, if you’re against a top-lane Nasus, you can just drag and drop so that he’s next to you and it will only take a swift glance over to see what he’s building. The menu will line up items according to cost too, the data on it is bigger and it even shows you the cooldown timers for your allies’ spells.
As for the the HUD update’s release date, Riot says that it will be rolled out to the live servers with patch 5.14, first to unranked games and then to ranked. Patch 5.14 will be out ‘soon’ apparently, but we’ll let you know the specific release date as soon as it’s announced.
