At E3 2015, Bethesda revealed that Fallout 4 begins with your character married to someone of the opposite sex. You and your partner even have a child (who will be based on your appearance) and a robot butler. But when the nuclear war breaks out, you make it to the vault but neither your spouse nor your child survive.
Due to the sensitive and emotional nature of the game’s beginning, romance probably wasn’t expected by most Fallout 4 fans. However, during the Fallout 4 presentation at Quakecon, the game’s director Todd Howard revealed that players will be able to romance their companions regardless of their gender. Find out more after the break.
Fallout 4 Romance
In the presentation, Howard explained that Fallout 4 players will be able to romance (or just travel with) around 12 or so different companions, one of whom is Preston Garvey, the leader of a faction called The Commonwealth of Minutemen. Another new character and potential companion/love interest was also introduced during the presentation; a woman named Piper who works at the newspaper at Diamond City (formerly Fenway Park).
Unfortunately, Howard didn’t provide any specifics on how Fallout 4‘s romance will work. However, PC Gamer notes that in Skyrim, players could not only marry their companions but they could move in together too. Given that Fallout 4 includes a base building feature, there’s a good chance that your new love interest will shack up with you there.
Other tidbits from the presentation include the fact that players who don’t choose to travel with a companion will get some sort of bonus. Plus, Mr. Handy, the aforementioned robot butler, will be able to say thousands of names, even ones as ridiculous as “Fart Face”. Info about Fallout 4‘s levelling system was also revealed, with Howard explaining that every time you level up you can pick a perk, there are perks for every level of S.P.E.C.I.A.L, there are 70 base perks and these perks all have various ranks too.
Fallout 4 will be released on November 10, 2015 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
