The Swindle is a game that has been steamrolling itself towards release for the past few months. Initially canned by developer Size Five games, it was re-revealed earlier this year and has been steadily preparing to steal our hearts ever since.
We’ve covered the game quite a bit here on the site but if you’ve missed out previous coverage (look at our tag for The Swindle here) then the game is a randomly generated steampunk thieve-em-up. What that means is that you control a thief and your main goal is to pull off heists of various difficulties, spending your looted money on becoming a better thief.
Find out more about the game and watch The Swindle launch trailer, after the break.
The Swindle Launch Trailer
As mentioned, The Swindle is all about robbing people blind. The idea is that you’ll start off slowly, learning the tricks of the trade and bringing in small hoards as you learn your craft. But as you upgrade your abilities, skills and tools, you’ll improve greatly and will eventually be able to take on the biggest heist of them all; Scotland Yard.
It’s not all hacking hijinks and mad dashes from the rozzers though, as The Swindle makes sure that you think a little bit tactically. Dan Marshall (the founder of Size Five games) previously explained that the game’s enemies can kill you with one hit and once they do, that character who you’re playing as (who is also randomly generated) will be lost forever.
Marshall also adds that:
“After three years of developing and talking about nothing but The Swindle I am ecstatic that players are finally getting their hands on the game. With The Swindle I wanted to design a completely new spin on the stealth and action experience whilst keeping true to a classic rogue like style experience. That was the kind of game that I always wanted to play but could never find. The reception we have already received has been incredible. I can’t wait to see people’s different heist set ups.”
The Swindle is out now on PC and Mac (via Steam), and it is also available on PS4, PS3 and PS Vita with cross-buy. The Xbox One version of the game will be released on Friday, while the Wii U version will be released later this year.
