Earlier this month we shed a little light on a game called Onikira: Demon Killer. A beat ’em up, Onikira puts you in the well travelled shoes of a samurai who’s fighting with everything he’s got to defend Earth from a demon invasion.
The samurai, Yamazaki Jiro, had been clubbing, stabbing and throwing opponents into submission since November, when Onikira was first released on Steam Early Access). Publisher Headup Games revealed that the full version of the game would be released on July 30, but at the last minute, developer Digital Furnace Games has now delayed Onikira: Demon Killer‘s release.
Onikira: Demon Killer Delayed
Many of Onikira‘s Early Access players have stated that the game is coming along nicely and has made great strides since its initial debut. Digital Furnace agrees, saying that they’ve “fixed countless bugs, and added 3 times the content” but “if [they] release tomorrow, the game will be missing that final layer of polish that will take it from being a fun game to being an amazing one” and that “everything needs to be running as smoothly as possible” before they release the game in full.
As a result, Digital Furnace has delayed Onikira: Demon Killer “for just a few more weeks” while they can give the game a final polish. Most fans are okay with the delay, telling the developer that they’d rather play the finished version of the game rather than a lacklustre one. Given the fact that so many games (Assassin’s Creed Unity, Batman: Arkham Knight, etc.) have launched in a broken state, their leniency is perhaps understandable.
Others aren’t so chuffed though. Digital Furnace only made the announcement about Onikira‘s delay yesterday, one day before the game’s release. Such short notice is fine for those playing the game on Early Access as they’ve already got a taste of the game’s demon killing, but for those waiting for the full version, it’s obviously disappointing.
The full version of Onikira: Demon Killer will be released soon on PC. The Early Access version of the game is available now via Steam.
