In Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft is a new woman. Although the events on Yamatai in Tomb Raider (2013) were horrific and would be traumatising for most, Lara has emerged as a hardened warrior. She knows the most effective way to kill her enemies and she’s certainly not afraid to do it.
This is incredibly clear in the brand new Rise of the Tomb Raider gameplay demo. Lara’s new adventure was on show at Gamescom 2015, featuring combat, stealth and super smart tactics. Watch the video after the break.
Rise of the Tomb Raider Gameplay Demo
As mentioned, Lara is now a lean, mean, killing machine. In Tomb Raider (2013) her first kill was awful, as Lara had never taken another life, so it’s nice to see that Rise of the Tomb Raider offers some real, tangible character progression. The demo showcases a variety of ways that Lara can murder and they should be adaptable no matter your play style.
For example, in one section of the demo we see Lara creeping through shrubbery to avoid taking on all of the enemies at once. Throwing cans to make noise and distract her foes, she can lure away lone soldiers or she can even avoid conflict altogether. In another section, we see Lara engaging the enemy, picking off a couple of them with gassy, poisonous arrows, shotgunning a couple of them out of existence and then crafting an explosive to take the rest of them out.
Speaking of crafting, Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s crafting and exploration elements were also touched upon. Lara can spend ‘hours’ exploring and raiding tombs, earning resources and whatnot along the way. Players wil also be able to level up Lara’s abilities, which again should allow people to tackle the game in any way they feel like.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released on November 10, 2015 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The game will be released on PC and PS4 in 2016.
