With huge announcements and reveals such as the new Mirror’s Edge Catalyst gameplay trailer and the FIFA 16 Xbox One bundles, EA had a pretty huge Gamescom 2015. But their presentation was also filled with smaller showcases, such as the announcement of The Sims 4 Get Together expansion pack. EA had done a good job of keeping the EP under wraps and so for most fans, it was completely unexpected.
In the trailer and the accompanying press release(s) EA explained that The Sims 4 Get Together would harness the social element of The Sims 4‘s gameplay, encouraging players and their Sims to make new friends, to hang out and have fun. And while features such as clubs and the DJ and dancing skills were also shown off during the presentation, the publisher had lots more to say about Get Together‘s world and its activities on Twitter and at a Gamescom preview session. Here are some highlights.
The Sims 4 Get Together Details
One thing that fans really responded to with the initial Sims 4 Get Together announcement is that this expansion pack introduces a new world to the game. Called Windenburg, it’s a fusion of traditional European styles and modern elements. And, as revealed during the preview session, Windenburg is as big as the base game.
Obvious questions are ‘how on Earth can Windenburg be filled with things to do?’ and ‘is most of it empty space?’ However, it seems like that space will very much be put to good use as EA also confirmed that there will be a new lot size; a huge 64×64. And Rachel Franklin (executive producer of The Sims 4) tweeted that The Sims 4 Get Together features a new pub and a new cafe (with new, European-inspired grub), while Lyndsay Pearson (creative director of The Sims 4) revealed that players will be able to party in some ruins and in the new dance clubs too.
Furthermore, this new lot size is particularly useful for those who want to create the ultimate ‘hangout’ spot for their clubs. Players can customise the location of the club, with EA providing an example of the “popular kids” getting social at the fitness centre. Also, on clubs, Sims in a club will walk together, like to do the same things as one another and wear similar things. You can even customise the club’s plumbobs, with the leader having a little crown on theirs.
The Sims 4 Get Together will be released in November, 2015 on PC and Mac.
