Last month, publishers Headup Games and Merge Games seemed pretty chuffed to announce that beat ’em up Onikira: Demon Killer would be released on PC on July 30. But then, just a day before release, the game’s developer Digital Furnace Games revealed that they were delaying the full release of the game for a few weeks.
It wasn’t the end of the world as it was still available via Steam Early Access and Digital Furnace had delayed it for extra polishing (which is never a bad reason for a delay, really) but it was still disappointing. The developer has stuck to their word though, as a new Onikira: Demon Killer release date has been announced and a new trailer is here to whet your appetite too.
New Onikira: Demon Killer Trailer, Release Date
As the trailer demonstrates quite well, Onikira: Demon Killer is intent on letting you, as a samurai named Yamazaki Jiro, slice through every hunk of meat in your way. These enemies are spread out across seven levels and you’ll be taking them down with “40 uber-cool moves and using four devastating weapons”, says Digital Furnace. Four weapons (sword, tetsubo, naginata, and arms blades) doesn’t seem like a lot but there are also unlockable moves and you can wall run, grapple and use the environment to your advantage in battle.
Also keeping your thumbs occupied, twiddling your way through Onikira: Demon Killer‘s world, are its challenge arenas where “players complete combat related challenges and improve their score and skill to gain achievements”. The aim is to rack up some monstrous combo chains, earning points and multipliers as you go. The game’s got full integration with the Steam leaderboards too so if proving that you’re the best of the best is your thing, you’ll have all of the tools to do that here.
The (new) Onikira: Demon Killer release date is August 27, 2015. The full game will be available on Steam via $13.99, £10.59 or €13.99.
