In League of Legends‘ bot lane, there are few things as frightful as the Blitzcrank hook (the Blitz hook/Jinx chompers wombo combo is the stuff of nightmares). It’s an incredibly effective tool at killing your opponents, whether you tug them under turrets or pull them into range so that your ADC can finish them off. But what if Blitzcrank’s hook could be used for good?
In the new League of Legends mobile game, Blitzcrank’s Poro Roundup, that’s just been released by Riot Games, that’s exactly what he does does. Poros are being chased down and eaten by the Baron Nashor and it’s up to the supportive steam golem to hook them to safety and bump them out of harm’s way. The game is incredibly addictive (not that we’d expect anything less from Riot) but it will only be available for a limited time. Find out more after the break.
League of Legends Mobile Game – Blitzcrank’s Poro Roundup
Blitzcrank’s Poro Roundup may have the sort of gameplay that you keep coming back to (it’s simple enough – you just swipe to move him up and down and tap to hook), but it’s actually got a solid story as well. There are 11 levels here, complete with other League of Legends champions as bosses. For example, if you save enough poros in the first level of the game, Singed will come along to poison them and when you grab them it slows Blitz down, making his job that much more difficult. But beating these bosses harks back to boss battles of old, which is a nice throwback.
And although this is a mobile title from Riot Games, who made almost $1 billion from League of Legends‘ F2P mechanics last year, Blitzcrank’s Poro Roundup is pretty lenient. There is gold (you get gold pieces for each poro you save) and you can spend these on various skins for Blitzcrank and his pals (Thresh, Corki, and Nautilus are all unlockable, playable characters). And there are items to buy too, which increase speed, grab range and health (you lose a life for each poro you lose to Baron). Gold and add-ons can’t be bought with microtransactions, though, so you’ll just have to earn it.
Unfortunately, Blitzcrank’s Poro Roundup will only be available for a limited time. Riot has released the mobile game as part of the ‘Arcade’ theme month in League of Legends, that coincides with the release of the Arcade Riven and Battle Boss Blitzcrank skins, and so it will only be available until September 21, 2015.
