Rock Band 4 launches next Tuesday and it will launch with plenty of things for players to do. In addition to its ginormous tracklist (thousands of songs are on offer as it’s compatible with every piece of Rock Band DLC), it also has a deep, RPG-like career mode that will allow Rock Band 4 players to make some serious decisions about the future of their band.
Unsatisfied with all of this, though, developer and co-publisher Harmonix is already planning Rock Band 4‘s post-launch content. And it’s more than your usual DLC packs too; Harmonix is promising major gameplay additions “based on feedback from its community”. The first of these new features is ‘Variable Breakneck Speed’ and you can find out more about it after the break.
Rock Band 4 Variable Breakneck Speed + U2 Songs
When Variable Breakneck Speed is added to Rock Band 4 (on December 6) it will allow players to “control note scrolling speeds for each track independently”. Unfortunately, Harmonix has not released any gameplay videos of the feature in action but in theory, it could give more experienced Rock Band players a greater challenge if they find the game easy even at its hardest difficulty setting.
As for the other features the Rock Band 4 development team is working on, Harmonix CEO Steve Janiak says that:
“With the core game already shipping to retailers for an October 6 launch, we’re excited to start looking at the future of Rock Band for our fans. We already have a team hard at work building new features for the platform, some based on player feedback, along with some surprises, including a new mode that changes gameplay in a really significant way that we think people are going to love.”
That ‘new mode’ may be vague and mysterious but what has been confirmed, at least, is that U2 songs will be available in Rock Band 4 at launch, with more on the way as DLC after the game is released. The band has sold over 170 million records worldwide but this is the first time their music has ever been featured in a music game, so this is a considerable win for the dev/pub and will hopefully lead people to buy their game over their rival, Guitar Hero Live.
Rock Band 4 will be available on October 6, 2015 for PS4 and Xbox One.
