[UPDATE – 13/11/2015 – An earlier version of this post stated that EA Sports UFC 2 would also be released on PC, however, this is not the case and we have updated the post to reflect this.]
Having acquired the UFC license from THQ in 2012, EA’s first attempt at recreating the octagon in virtual form went quite well. EA Sports UFC was released on PS4 and Xbox One in June 2014 to mixed/positive reviews. The fighting was (mostly) meaty and enjoyable and the graphics were fantastic as beads of sweat and specks of blood covered the fighters and their muscles and bodies moved convincingly too.
It wasn’t perfect by any means though, as some aspects of the fighting were too fiddly to execute (such as the ground and pound and submission mechanics) and the career mode also involved some tedious grinding for points to improve your fighter. So, with EA Sports UFC 2 now confirmed for PS4 and Xbox One, here’s hoping that that will all be worked on.
EA Sports UFC 2 On PS4 and Xbox One
Unfortunately, the EA Sports UFC 2 trailer above doesn’t feature any gameplay, but it does clue us in on what feature we can expect. Firstly, it notes that it will feature “the smoothest, most responsive set of movements ever available in an MMA game that will add new dimensions to your stand up, ground game and everything in between”. Physics driven reactions will also make “every impact and every finish” unique, says the trailer.
EA Sports UFC 2 will also provide “tools to master MMA”, with “technique honing challenges”, “mid-fighting feedback”, and “free sparring sessions” all helping us become the best fighters possible. We’ll be able to put these to use in the new online and offline modes (no word on what those are yet) and these fights will also look great thanks to the game’s “unmatched character visuals” with “thousands of new and signature animations” being added. And, we can’t forget the new character creation either – fingers crossed that we’ll be able to create female UFC fighters this time around.
EA has said that more information will be revealed later this week and while we’re hoping to get a first glimpse at EA Sports UFC 2 in action, it will also be interesting to see whether or not the likes of CM Punk, The Rock and even Chuck Norris are included in the game as an EA survey once suggested. We’ll keep you updated.
EA Sports UFC 2 will be released on PS4 and Xbox One in spring 2016.
