While many League of Legends players are still enjoying the fruits of patch 5.23, and getting to grips with new champion Illaoi’s mechanics, Riot Games is gearing up for Snowdown 2015. The annual event commemorates the end of the year, with Riot hosting sales and releasing new Winter-y content to get everyone into the Snowdown spirit.
When League of Legends patch 5.24 rolls around, players will be able to buy several new Snowdown skins to bring in the holiday in style. But not only that, the update will also introduce the long-awaited Poppy rework along with the incredibly popular ‘Legend of the Poro King’ featured game mode. Find out more about patch 5.24 after the break.
League of Legends Patch 5.24
League of Legends patch 5.24 will include new Snowdown skins, these are: Snow Day Bard (1350 RP), Snow Day Syndra (1350 RP and it’s a legacy skin) and Snow Day Gnar (975 RP, legacy skin). The Penguin Skier ward will also be available (640 RP, it’s a legacy ward too) and Snowdown minions will feature on both Howling Abyss and Summoner’s Rift for the duration of patch 5.24
Moreover, patch 5.24 will include Snowdown icons (these are legacy icons) which you can send to people for 100 IP each (it also grants the recipient an IP boost) and the Legend of the Poro King makes a comeback. Legend of the Poro King is a game mode on Howling Abyss in which players throw poros at enemies in order to summon the mighty Poro King.
Another significant change in League of Legends patch 5.24 is the Poppy rework. In addition to a visual update for Poppy and all of her skins, the adorable, hammer-wielding Yordle’s abilities have changed quite a bit too, for example, Poppy’s ult now deals a huge knockback to enemies instead of giving her a protective barrier.
But this isn’t all that patch 5.24 will offer players as the last patch of the year has a few other tweaks that you may just appreciate (though we should note that these feature are currently in testing on the League of Legends Public Beta Environment and may not be released on the live servers for whatever reason):
- Rift Herald Relic: One problem with the Doom’s Eve buff that you get for killing the Rift Herald is that if your jungler smites and ends up getting the buff then it’s wasted wasted as they have no lane to push. From patch 5.24 onwards, the Rift Herald will drop a relic (that all players can see but only the killing team can pick up) which should make it easier to coordinate who gets the buff.
- Persistent Chat/Clubs Feature: Back in patch 5.19, Riot introduced ‘persistent chat rooms’, but in patch 5.24 this will evolve into League of Legends‘ “earliest version of clubs”. Clubs are “player-named, player-organized, and player-controlled social groups” says Riot, and you’ll be able to set club tags that show up on your hovercard and in-game (though ranked team tags will still take “precedence” in ranked team games).
- Your Snowdown Shop: And finally, League of Legends patch 5.24 introduces Your Snowdown Shop which is a store with champion and skin discounts that are ‘unique’ to you.
