In the last week (and a bit) Harmonix has been making moves left and right. Not only was the developer at The Game Awards 2015 to announce Oculus Rift exclusive game Rock Band VR, but the company has just released Rock Band 4‘s huge free content update too.
Clearly not satisfied with being rushed off their feet as is, Harmonix has now announced their sponsorship of the “nation’s largest annual queer gaming convention” GaymerX (which is officially called GX3) which is currently taking place in San Jose, California. Find out more on why Harmonix is supporting the event, after the break.
Harmonix Sponsors GaymerX Games Convention
As part of Harmonix’ sponsorship of GaymerX , Rock Band 4 will be playable at the convention. The developer also invites GaymerX attendees to stop by their booth and come and meet the game’s developers where they’ll also be able to “collect fabulous exclusive swag” and “learn about Harmonix job opportunities”.
The fact that the company is supporting an LGBTQ+ convention doesn’t really come as a surprise given that the developer is one of the only companies to think about gender identity in its games. Rock Band 4 offers ‘gender expressive’ character customisation options which is a small feature but one that many people surely appreciate.
Additionally, Steve Janiak, CEO of Harmonix says that “Harmonix makes games for a diverse community of players. We’re proud to partner with GaymerX. Their credo, ‘everybody games!’ falls right in line with our studio’s values and mission”. Matt Conn, the founder and CEO of GaymerX adds that “Harmonix has some of the best titles out there for bringing people together. We’re proud and excited to have them join us because it sends a message that these games really are for everyone and that we are all welcome to join in on the fun.”
GaymerX (GX3) is currently taking place in San Jose, California (Dec 11-13) and events include a talk on voice acting (which is co-hosted by Mass Effect‘s Jennifer Hale) and a discussion on coming out in the industry, while upcoming game Read Only Memories will be on show too.
