As a daring adventurer who has to battle against bad guys, scavenge for resources and explore harsh environments for hidden treasure, Lara Croft has some serious survival instincts. But in the main campaign of Rise of the Tomb Raider, two key aspects of survival – staying warm and staying fed – aren’t really very important. The game is less The Long Dark and more ‘student on a (slightly chilly) gap year’.
However, with Crystal Dynamics and Microsoft having hyped up Lara’s survival abilities in the Woman vs. Wild video series, Rise of the Tomb Raider players are now being given a chance to put them to the test. In Lara’s biggest challenge yet, the Rise of the Tomb Raider Endurance Mode DLC leaves the leading lady vulnerable to the environment.
Rise of the Tomb Raider Endurance Mode DLC
On the Xbox store Microsoft describes the Endurance Mode DLC with the following:
“Alone and in the wild, Lara must scrounge, scavenge, craft and survive the harsh elements by day, as well as lethal threats from enemies, both man and beast, by night. This is her ultimate woman-versus-wild test to push the limits of how long she can survive on her own in sprawling, unforgiving landscapes. Fire takes fuel, cold kills the unprepared, food restores health, but everything must be caught, collected, or crafted. You start with nothing and must find everything. Challenge friends to your longest survival run and battle to the top of the leaderboards for the title of Ultimate Survivor. Includes a new outfit and weapon.”
The Endurance Mode DLC is currently available for $9.99 or as part of the game’s $29.99 season pass. However, some are questioning whether or not the extra difficulty is worth that much – or whether Crystal Dynamics could have added Endurance Mode to the game for free – so hopefully the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider content drops (including the terrifying Baba Yaga DLC) will prove to be a little less divisive.
