Announced just back in November, EA has been keen to describe EA Sports UFC 2‘s new gameplay features. Not only does the upcoming fighter boast ‘knockout physics’ but the game also adds new game modes such as KO Mode and Ultimate Team and tweaks to existing ones, with career mode now playable with a female fighter.
Unfortunately, while the descriptions are nice, EA has had very little to show off the game bar the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it teasers for Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo’s fight for the cover. Thankfully, though, the company has heard our calls for something more substantial having now released a full-length EA Sports UFC 2 gameplay trailer. You can watch that video (and find out the game’s release date) after the jump.
EA Sports UFC 2 Gameplay Trailer + Release Date
Although it’s barely a minute of footage (if you take out the views from the crowd), it appears that EA is letting us know that we’ll be able to recreate UFC’s biggest fights. The gameplay trailer features virtual recreations of both Conor McGregor’s stunning (and record breaking) victory over Jose Aldo as well as Ronda Rousey’s defeat to Holly Holm after Holm K.O’d her with a kick to the head. It’s hardly the most flattering way to present one of the game’s cover stars but Rousey’s defeat was one of the biggest sport stories of 2015.
The trailer also gives us a glimpse of the new knockout physics system as well. One of the biggest complaints of EA’s first UFC game was that your victories felt repetitive; there was no variety and it took the thrill out of winning, but with EA Sports UFC 2 “every knockout will feel different from the last”, promises EA. With the trailer being so short it’s hard to know whether that’s completely correct but the small amount of footage does make knockouts look like a hell of a good time.
In other EA Sports UFC 2 news, EA says that those who pre-order the game will get day-one access to UFC Hall of Famer Bas Rutten, “The Gracie Hunter” Kazushi Sakuraba and a currently unnamed mystery fighter. With CM Punk already confirmed as a playable fighter in the game, our best guess for that mystery character is Chuck Norris as the Texas Ranger was featured in an EA survey about who should be added to the game.
Who do you think the EA Sports UFC 2 mystery fighter is? Are you impressed by the gameplay trailer? Leave a comment and let us know.
EA Sports UFC 2 will be released March 15 (North America), March 17 (worldwide) on PS4 and Xbox One.
