Last year, games publisher and developer Atari made headlines when the company announced their support for NYC Pride, also attending events dedicated to LGBTQ+ gamers. Atari became the latest games company to be vocal in its support of LGBTQ+ people, joining BioWare and EA on the list.
However, that’s not all that Atari is doing to show just how progressive their politics are with new mobile game, Pridefest The game allows players to create their very own virtual pride parades, rainbows, floats and all and it’s now available on iOS and Android devices. Find out more after the break.
Atari Releases Pridefest on iOS and Android
Developed by Mad Marshmallow, Pridefest is described as “an interactive social-sim game that empowers YOU to spread joy and color through your city”. The game puts you in the position of Mayor (you can customise your look and choose between he/she/they pronouns) and challenges you to “restore your city to its former glory”.
There are a few components to this city customisation, but the main factor is turning grey buildings into better, vibrant ones by using ‘Fun’. This Fun can be spread by hosting Pride parades and you, as Mayor, can customise these too. You can choose a variety of different floats, the kind of music and all sorts of different features that would make a Pride festival a absolutely smashing time.
Spread enough Fun and those buildings will be ready for renovation and you can turn them into spa centres, houses, record stores, bowling alleys, wedding chapels, dance studios and just about any other outlet you can think of. It also costs you coins to renovate these buildings but each building has an income so you can make that money back, You can also build stands on sidewalks which earn you extra moolah as you go.
There are some concerns about the game such as whether it’s microtransactions (you can buy or earn gems and spend them to unlock things faster) are too expensive and whether Atari is exploiting the LGBTQ+ community with Pridefest. These are valid concerns and ones that we’ll be writing about tomorrow, but for now, download information is below.
Pridefest is now available for free on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).
