Jotun, the debut title from Thunder Lotus Games, starring Thora, a Viking warrior who has died an inglorious death and must earn her place in Valhall. To do is, Thora must players go on a journey prove herself to the gods; journey that involves taking down the gods in a series of incredibly challenging boss battles.
Released on PC, Mac and Linux in September, reviews of the title were mostly positive. While not everyone enjoyed the game’s boss battle setup, many others appreciated the trickiness of these hulking foes, and how each of the jotun’s fighting styles (whether they have terrifying, fiery strikes or slams of the ground that send Thora flying) lead you to change your tactics. Those who’ve not yet witnessed this be glad to hear that Jotun has just been announced for PS4, Xbox One and Wii U.

Jotun: Valhalla Edition for PS4, Xbox One and Wii U
When Jotun lands on consoles, it will have a slightly different name. Instead of just Jotun, the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U version will be called Jotun: Valhalla Edition, to reflect the newly introduced Valhalla Mode. Once it goes live, Valhalla Mode will become even more difficult as the hulking great enemies become much harder to take down. Those who already own the game on PC/Mac/Linux won’t miss out either as Valhalla Mode will be available to them as a free update.
What’s currently unclear at this stage is whether or not Valhalla Mode will make the game’s other challenges more difficult too. While defeating the jotun is one mighty, Dark Souls-esque task, as mentioned there are other things that can knock Thora’s health down a few pips including an ice cold wind that buffets you as you explore and search for runes, while one jotun has dwarven minions who swarm and are almost as much of a challenge as their jotun leader.
Thunder Lotus Games hasn’t revealed any pricing for Jotun: Valhalla Edition, but the developer is apparently aiming for a summer 2016 launch on consoles, so that could be any time between June and August. The game is apparently already going through the ratings system (a leak from the Brazilian ratings board outed the console version last month), so hopefully it will avoid similar delay problems faced by fellow PC-console transplant, Gone Home.
Jotun: Valhalla Edition will be released later this year on PS4, Xbox One and Wii U. The game is currently available on PC, Mac and Linux.
