When it comes to game updates, recent League of Legends patches 6.4 and 6.5 weren’t exactly the most substantial. Although the two patches added several new skins (including Blood Moon Yasuo and Kennen), along with some much welcomed lore updates, many League of Legends players hoped that there would be more to tide them over as they waited for (new loot system) Hextech Crafting to be rolled out across all server regions.
Few will complain about patch 6.6, however, as the upcoming update adds a megaton of content to the massively popular MOBA. This includes new champion, Aurelion Sol, The Star Forger, a new set of April Fools Day skins as well as a hilarious new look for the game’s minions. Find out the League of Legends patch 6.6 release date and take a look at what else the patch offers after the break.
League of Legends Patch 6.6 Release Date
Riot Games has announced that the League of Legends patch 6.6 release date is March 23, 2016. Below is the North American server maintenance notice for the update:
“On 03/23/16, starting at, 01:30 Pacific Time (08:30 UTC), ranked queues will be disabled in preparation for patch 6.6. At 03:00 Pacific time (10:00 UTC), the servers will be shut down and all games currently in progress will end in a draw and stats will not be recorded. We estimate the battlegrounds will be unavailable for 3 hours.”
The EUW servers will go down at 5:00AM UK time and the EUNE servers will go down at 3:00AM CET.
Riot Games has a long history of April Fools Day silliness (e.g the Order of the Banana Soraka and Surprise Party Amumu skins) and that’s not about to end this year. League of Legends patch 6.6 adds Meowkai (1350RP), Definitely Not Vel’Koz (750 RP), Urf Kench (750 RP) and Draven Draven (no price has been announced) which gives Draven a massive head. Draven minions are also being added to the game, so click here for a look at those.
Ashen Lord Aurelion Sol Skin Spotlight via SkinSpotlights
Also making League of Legends patch 6.6 one of the biggest of the year (so far) is the arrival of new champion Aurelion Sol. Born from the ashes of cancelled champion Ao Shin, the dragon-like champion of Aurelion Sol uses the stars and the wonders of the galaxy to inflict damage upon his enemies. Also, his release skin is Ashen Lord Aurelion Sol (1350 RP). A video of the Ashen Lord skin is above, while the Ashen Lord Aurelion Sol splash art can be found here.
Other new additions in League of Legends patch 6.6 can be found below:
- Definitely Not A Ward Skin: Also being introduced in patch 6.6 as part of the April Fools festivities is the Definitely Not A Ward skin which costs 640 RP and makes some brilliant noises when placed or destroyed. Click here for a preview of the ward skin.
- Taric’s Hammer: In what looks like a teaser to the upcoming Taric rework, Taric’s hammer can be spotted in the store on Summoner’s Rift.
- April Fools Day Icons: Moreover, League of Legends patch 6.6 adds six new summoner icons based on those new April Fools Day skins.
