Kitfox Games mythology RPG Moon Hunters was successfully crowdfunded all the way back in September, 2014. As the title suggests, the game follows a character who is on the hunt for the missing moon, but along the way they can also build up their tribe, battle various enemies and become a legend in the process.
Moon Hunters was released on PC (after a few delays) back in March and critics praised its co-operative gameplay (it can be played with up to four players) in particular. Soon it will be PlayStation gamers’ chance to play the RPG as Kitfox has now revealed that Moon Hunters is headed to PS4 in July.
Moon Hunters PS4 Release Date
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Kitfox Games’ creative director Tanya Short reveals that Moon Hunters will be out on PS4 on July 12. Short also acknowledges that the game is missing its initial target of a winter 2015 release on PlayStation, but explains that the developer “wanted to make it the best possible version of the game.”
Short also addresses one of the main criticisms of Moon Hunters – its rather brief playthroughs. The creative director says that Kitfox knew it “wanted to make a “party game” style RPG, about 45 minutes long each session” and that “rather than make each session epic in and of itself, we ended up focusing on the constellations and legends you create, which are saved across playthroughs.”
Moreover, Short reveals that Kitfox will be using the weeks leading up to Moon Hunters’ PS4 release date,”cooking to make more delicious, familiars to make more adorable, constellations to make more sparkly, etc.”
Unfortunately, and much to the disappointment of handheld gamers, the creative director makes no mention of Moon Hunters’ previously announced PS Vita version. There’s no word on whether that’s still in the works/if it will be released following a successful PS4 launch, but we’ll keep you posted.
