Back in March, video game publisher Deep Silver promised that it had a “major announcement” lined up for E3 2016. At the time, many (including us) speculated that the major title could possibly be a new Saints Row game as 2015’s Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell was a spin-off and the series had not had a fully-fledged entry since 2013’s Saints Row IV.
Unfortunately, it seems that Deep Silver will not be bringing Saints Row 5 to E3 – at least, it won’t be developed by (franchise creator) Volition. Volition has now announced that it is working on an open-world action game named Agents of Mayhem, introducing the title with a flash, cinematic trailer. Find out more after the break.

Volition Announces Agents of Mayhem
Revealed via IGN, Agents of Mayhem puts players in an “urban landscape” where they’ll face off against a nefarious organisation called L.E.G.I.O.N. Players control a squad of three agents and use their skills to kick L.E.G.I.O.N’s behind. Announced characters include Fortune, a dual-wielding sky pirate from Brazil (she also has a drone), Hollywood, a chiselled TV personality who has an assault rifle and US navy man Hardtack who is described as a “short-range bruiser.”
Although it’s nice to be introduced to two new characters of colour in Fortune and Hardtack, the latter is stereotypical if not incredibly familiar (“stop creating loud black soldiers who only know how to yell” read: Kotaku). The Agents of Mayhem website does list the names of several other characters whose skills and faces have yet to be revealed, though, so perhaps Volition can make up for that.
Also disappointing is the fact that Agents of Mayhem is described as a “single-player” title and there has been no mention of co-op. If any game is perfect for co-operative play then it’s this one and so if the game doesn’t include co-op at all, it represents a real missed opportunity by Volition, but lets see if the developer changes its mind as it continues to work on the game.
Agents of Mayhem will be released in 2017 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
