To say that Mass Effect fans haven’t had it easy this past few months would be an understatement. BioWare recently confirmed the rumoured Mass Effect: Andromeda delay, saying that the game would not be released until 2017, and fans were also rocked by the news that several key developers had left the Andromeda team.
On a positive note, E3 2016 is now in full swing and EA used its press conference at the annual industry bash to tell us more about the game. In a brand new trailer, viewers can see the very first glimpses of gameplay and we also get our first look at the Mass Effect Andromeda female protagonist. Watch the trailer after the break.

Mass Effect Andromeda Female Protagonist Shown in New Gameplay Trailer
While it doesn’t quite feature as much gameplay as we’d like, the new Mass Effect Andromeda trailer gives us a small taste of what to come. For starters, the trailer features a brief look at new ship the Tempest, which will be using to fly to “distant star systems with remote and hostile planets ripe for discovery” and at one point the Mako land rover vehicle is seen zipping around.
It also provides a look at the game’s combat, as a huge, menacing beastie snaps a character into its jaws and in another scene, a group of characters takes cover during a firefight. Moreover, the trailer introduces us to the Mass Effect: Andromeda female protagonist.
Rumoured to be called Ryder (after the first American woman in space, Sally Ride), it’s positive to see that EA is featuring the female protagonist model so prominently in its marketing for the game, even if we don‘t officially know her name yet.
Additional information gleaned from the Mass Effect Andromeda trailer is that players are looking for a place to call home – but we’ll come across plenty of hostile environments so we shouldn’t expect it to be easy. It’s unclear whether the Andromeda story will look at the morals of colonization, as a previous leak suggested.
The video also confirms that both the Krogan and Asari species will be making a return, and we can’t wait to meet the smiling Asari from the video and (possibly) make a new friend.
Mass Effect Andromeda will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2017.
