Earlier this year, ConcernedApe, the one man development team behind Animal Crossing-like Stardew Valley, revealed that he was “in discussion” to bring the game to consoles. While the developer couldn’t disclose more details about his porting plans at the time, the announcement itself was of little surprise given that Stardew Valley’s PC version sold 1 million copies in just two months.
It has now been a short while since ConcernedApe made the initial Stardew Valley on consoles announcement and the developer is finally able to shed more light on the console versions. Stardew Valley will be released on PS4, Xbox One and Wii U and you can find out more information after the break.
Stardew Valley Console Release Date
In a post on the Stardew Valley website, ConcernedApe reveals that the game will be released on PS4, Xbox One and Wii U this year. The developer says that he is working with Chucklefish (the publisher of the PC version of the game) and Sickhead Games and is “expecting to have these versions ready in time for the winter holidays.”
The developer says that “it’s very important to me that playing Stardew Valley with console controllers is intuitive and effortless. I’ll be the first to admit that the current, rudimentary controller support in the PC version is far from ideal, and it will need to be adjusted prior to the launch.” He also adds that “I’m also excited about the possibility of utilizing special console features like the Wii U’s second screen!”
Not only is Stardew Valley just good fun, as it allows players to live simple country lives, trying to become a master farmer, it has also been praised for the fact that it features same-sex relationships. Same-sex pairings and non-heterosexual characters are a rarity in games – especially on consoles – which makes it all the more special that this delightful title is headed to even more platforms.
