Released earlier this year on PS Vita, Severed stars a one-armed woman of colour named Sasha who gets lost in a “dark fantasy universe.” As she solves puzzles, uncovers secrets and tries to find her family, Sasha will also discover pieces of her own story (from both the past and the future) and use a living sword to slice her way through colourful enemies.
The game, which was made by Guacamelee! developer DrinkBox Studios, reviewed incredibly well, with some critics calling it the best thing on Sony’s handheld. Now, following the game’s successful Vita launch, DrinkBox has announced that Severed is coming to Wii U, 3DS and iOS. Find out more after the break.

Severed Wii U, 3DS and iOS Release Announced
DrinkBox announced that the game will be coming to more platforms in a brand new trailer, which you can see above. The developer says that Severed will be available on Wii U, 3DS and iOS in “summer 2016,” but unfortunately, no specific release dates for any of the platforms have been announced. DrinkBox hasn’t announced pricing either, though on PS Vita, Severed currently costs $14.99/£11.99.
DrinkBox has also stated that the Wii U version of Severed will feature a HD graphics upgrade and Off-TV play as well. Moreover, Severed will be Cross-Buy on Wii U and 3DS (meaning that you only have to buy it once to play it on both platforms) which will be good news to those with both Nintendo systems.
The news that Severed is coming to Wii U, 3DS and iOS and is ditching its PS Vita-exclusive status comes as no surprise. Although the Sony handheld certainly isn’t dead (Severed certainly helped increase interest too), combined, the Nintendo and Apple platforms have far more users and it makes sense for DrinkBox to bring the game to other touch-screen enabled devices.
It’s also worth mentioning that there is currently no word on an Android version of Severed. The fact that the game is coming to iOS and not just Nintendo platforms seems to suggest that DrinkBox would be willing to bring the title to Android devices as well, but we’ll keep you posted once there’s an official confirmation.
Severed will be released on Wii U, 3DS and iOS in summer 2016.
