Released as a timed exclusive on Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2015, Rise of the Tomb Raider saw Lara Croft and co. head to the chilly climes of Siberia. The adventure game, which some called one Lara’s best outings yet, also came to PC earlier this year and was scheduled for a PS4 release in holiday 2016.
However, many fans of the tomb raider voiced concerns that Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 had actually been cancelled after the upcoming game was a no-show at E3 2016. Addressing the rumours, the game’s enveloper Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that the game is still in development after all.
Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 Hasn’t Been Cancelled
The suggestions that Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 had been cancelled became prevalent after the game’s publisher Square Enix didn’t use E3 2016 to reveal a release date for the PS4 version, as many had expected. Instead, Square Enix opted to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise with fans being able to share their favourite moments from the series and take part in a fan art contest.
This doesn’t mean that the PS4 version has been canned, though, as an admin on the Square Enix forums clarified the situation. The admin reportedly as Crystal Dynamics directly, whether it had been cancelled, and the developer told them “as stated previously, Rise of the Tomb Raider’s PlayStation 4 release is set for Holiday 2016.”
While this is certainly good news, understandably, some fans are also disappointed that there are still no details on what Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 will include exactly. Fans have no idea whether the PS4 version will include visual improvements or whether it will feature all of the DLC in one package (similar to Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition) but we’ll keep you posted.
