Arriving later this year on PC and consoles, Farming Simulator 17 is aiming to be the best ever entry in the popular farm sim series. The Giants Software-developed title will introduce new crops, new animals, new vehicles, new machinery and it mods on consoles too.
But that’s not all, as for the first time since the Farming Simulator series began in 2012, the series is also adding playable female characters. Publisher Focus Home Interactive explains that Farming Simulator 17 will feature female characters in an effort to reflect the “diversity in agriculture” and you can find out more after the break.
Farming Simulator 17 Female Characters
At the beginning of the game, says Focus Home, Farming Simulator 17 players will be able to decide if their character is male or female. Players will also be able to customise their character’s outfit.
Unfortunately, only tank tops, jeans and plaid shirts have been shown off so far but we expect more clothing options to be unveiled as we get closer to the game’s release. Focus Home also says that players will be able to hire male or female farm workers too.
In an announcement post, the publisher also explains that female characters in Farming Simulator 17 was something “requested by the passionate Farming Simulator community.” The company adds that “the ability to play a female farmer reflects the diverse and ever-expanding industry of agriculture, making Farming Simulator 17 more realistic and rewarding than ever before.”
According to the United Nations, half of the agricultural workforce worldwide is made up of women, so this is a much-needed (albeit belated) step forward in a series that aims to accurately reflect the farming industry. It’s also positive to see yet another simulation series allow for better representation, with it recently being announced that Don Bradman Cricket 17 will feature female characters too.
Farming Simulator 17 will be released on October 25, 2016 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
