Following concerns that plans to bring Lara Croft’s latest adventure to Sony’s machine had been ditched, developer Crystal Dynamics confirmed that Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 had not been cancelled after all. Unfortunately, doubts remained as neither a release date nor details about the PS4 version’s content were revealed.
Those worries should now dissipate for good, though, as publisher Square Enix has officially confirmed the Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 release date. Moreover, the PS4 version of the game will get VR support and new DLC has also been confirmed for players on all platforms. Find out more after the break.

Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 Release Date
Square Enix reveals that Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 will arrive on October 11 as Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration. Unlike the PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions of the game, the PS4 version will not have a season pass as all of the DLC will be available automatically including the terrifying Baba Yaga DLC, outfits, weapons and Expedition Cards. There will also be a Limited Edition that comes with an art book.
Also in Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 is the freshly announced DLC add-on, Blood Ties. According to a Square Enix press release, players will explore Croft Manor in a new story mode as Lara proves that she is the manor’s rightful heir. There’s also Lara’s Nightmare which sees the famed female character defend the manor from zombies. Blood Ties is also playable with (Sony’s virtual reality headset) PlayStation VR on PS4.
There’s also a co-op expansion to Endurance Mode as two players can team up to raid tombs and survive in the harsh wilderness, hunting, collecting and crafting resources and taking on enemies in order to stay alive. Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration includes a “special classic Lara card pack” too, with five classic Lara skins – players can even replay the game as the Lara Croft from 1996 if they so wish (check out a screenshot above).
Although it appears that Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 players are getting the best deal here (pricing has yet to be announced), PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One players aren’t entirely being left out. Square Enix says that all of the aforementioned content (excluding PlayStation VR support) will be available to Rise of the Tomb Raider players on PC and Xbox if they have the game’s season pass.
