Available on PC, Mac and Linux, MidBoss’ cyberpunk adventure Read Only Memories has received high praise for being so inclusive. From asking the player which pronouns they’d like to go by, to an NPC cast of characters of various ethnicities, sexualities and genders (there are characters that identify as genderqueer and non-binary) the game is diverse as well as being good fun.
Few games have embraced all kinds of identities like MidBoss’ futuristic title which is why PlayStation gamers were so excited when it was announced that Read Only Memories will be coming to PS4 and PS Vita. Unfortunately, those on Sony machines will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the game as it has now been delayed.
Read Only Memories PS4/PS Vita Delay
Initially set for release on PS4 and PS Vita on August 16, MidBoss now explains that “due to a couple difficult hiccups in the certification process,” the company has “made the decision to take a bit more time to make the game function on the PlayStation and all its components flawlessly.” The company hopes that the delay will “make the best game possible for you all.”
MidBoss adds that it is working on getting Read Only Memories PS4/PS Vita, officially called 2064: Read Only Memories, ready for the “next PlayStation launch window.” According to the company, it’s likely that this will be mid-September.
In a blog post, the company also says that “we are extremely thankful for all the support and patience that the community has given us, and we are committed to making sure the game is exactly how it should be when everyone first gets to play it. We’re looking forward to letting you all visit Neo-SF very soon.”
The delay is certainly disheartening, especially given that there are no other games on PlayStation right now that are quite as inclusive as Read Only Memories. However, with ROM being so unique in its inclusiveness, the wait is worth it as no one will want to to play a sub-par version when the game comes to consoles.
