The title of Lara Croft’s next adventure has leaked online. The game, which follow 2013 reboot Tomb Raider and last year’s well-received Rise of the Tomb Raider, will reportedly be called Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The name comes from an image posted online of an open laptop on a crowded Montreal subway. It appears to suggest that TR and RotTR developer Crystal Dynamics is enlisting extra help for the upcoming game as it looks to make the next Lara Croft outing even bigger and better.
Rise of the Tomb Raider Sequel Name Leaks
The reddit user who sighted the Shadow of the Tomb Raider name and logo, says that unfortunately, they couldn’t see any details although that particular page of the presentation was about visuals. And though there’s just a blurry image to go on, Kotaku‘s Jason Schreier says that Shadow of the Tomb Raider “is indeed the name” according to a source.
The publication also confirms that Eidos Montreal, the developer behind controversial summer release Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, is helping (San Francisco-based) Crystal Dynamics on the game, which perhaps explains why the new Tomb Raider materials were spotted so far afield. It’s also worth noting that Crystal Dynamics is working on its “next AAA franchise” as well, so it makes sense for the developer to bring in a little extra muscle.
However, it’s unclear just when Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be revealed in an official capacity. Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 and the Blood Ties DLC were released less than a month ago and so Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix may want to let people enjoy that game and that new content before announcing an all new Lara Croft adventure. Though, if there’s another leak, it may just save Crystal and Square the trouble.
