Thunder Lotus Games upcoming game Sundered hits its Kickstarter crowdfunding goal in under six hours. The company was looking for CA$25,000 to fund the game, which is described as a ‘replayable Metroidvania.’
Sundered is Thunder Lotus’ second win on the crowdfunding platform as its debut title, Jotun, was also successfully funded through Kickstarter.
Sundered Successfully Funded on Kickstarter
After going live on Kickstarter yesterday, Sundered was able to raise its CA$25,000 funding goal in under six hours. As of the time of writing, the campaign sits at CA$43,011, with backer rewards including a digital PC or PS4 copy of the game, access to the game’s closed beta/alpha testing and a digital art book.
Thunder Lotus explains that the game’s development budget is $700,000 (including revenues from Jotun and a loan from the Canadian Media Fund), while Sony is its marketing partner on the game (though Sony isn’t funding the game’s development).
The money raised on Kickstarter will go towards making Sundered “the best it can be” and the campaign is about giving the game some extra polish and getting feedback from fans. The developer is looking to implement feedback regarding the games balancing, pacing, skill tree, perks as well as “What exactly defines the core gameplay experience and how we can improve it.”
The fact that Sundered has found success on the platform is unsurprising. Not only does Thunder Lotus have crowdfunding experience with Jotun, but plenty were already excited for Sundered as is. Sundered featured at PlayStation Experience 2016, for example, and the game was also on our list of 20 games with female protagonists that we’re looking forward to this year.
Moreover, the game, which sees lead character Eshe tangle with cultists and scientific revolutionaries, is also inspired by Left 4 Dead and Diablo 2. Thunder Lotus also promises huge boss battles and multiple endings for the game, which will be good news for those looking for a beautifully drawn, yet incredibly macabre timesink.
Sundered will be released on PC and PS4 in July 2017.
