PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn has sold 2.6 million copies in two weeks, confirms publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment. Developer Guerrilla Games also confirmed that it is working on some story focused DLC for the open-world RPG.
It was previously confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn is Sony’s best-selling PS4 franchise debut and the game also made it onto our list of games with female protagonists that we are most looking forward to this year.
Horizon Zero Dawn Sells 2.6 Million; Story DLC in Development
In a press release published on the Guerilla Games website, Sony confirmed that in the two weeks since the game launched (on February 28), Horizon Zero Dawn has “sold through” 2.6 million copies. This sold through figure, which includes digital and physical sales, is the actual number of copies owned by gamers and not just those bought by retailers and sitting on store shelves (‘sold-in’).
Sony notes that the critically acclaimed game has been praised for its “unique world design, wide array of strategic action and fascinating story line.” The press release doesn’t highlight the praise surrounding its lead character Aloy, though many fans have said they took an interest in the game because of her, despite Guerrilla Games not designing the female protagonist as a selling point.
Calling the game a “labor of love” and that it has been “extremely satisfying” to see fans’ reaction to the robot-dinosaur RPG, Guerrilla Games managing director Hermen Hulst also teases some Horizon Zero Dawn story DLC. Hulst calls the game as is the “beginning of Aloy’s story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn” and confirms that the team is “hard at work on an expansion to the story.”
At this point, it’s unclear exactly when this story content will be released and exactly what it will offer but no doubt, players will be chomping at the bit to get their hands on it. As noted by SIE Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden, the “incredible critical reaction to the game ” and the reaction from fans already shows how “impactful” Horizon Zero Dawn has been and no doubt, many would jump at any excuse to spend more time in its world.
