Nintendo confirms the Lady Layton: The Millionaire Ariadone’s Conspiracy release date. The game, which focuses on Professor Layton’s daughter Katrielle, will be released on Nintendo 3DS, iOS and Android devices in July.
The Lady Layton release date is just one of the new pieces of info regarding games with female characters that Nintendo presented during its Nintendo Direct livestream earlier this week.
Lady Layton: The Millionaire Ariadone’s Conspiracy Release Date + Trailer
In the latest Nintendo Direct livestream, the company confirmed the Lady Layton: The Millionaire Ariadone’s Conspiracy release date as July 20 on 3DS, iOS and Android. The Level-5 published game sees the titular female protagonist solve mystery cases, meet “everyday Londoners” and promises to be “funnier than ever.”
Unfortunately, this July 20 release date is only for Japan. When the Lady Layton game was announced, Level-5 confirmed said that Japan would get the game in spring 2017 and that it was aiming to release the game in the west in 2017 as well. With the Japanese release date slipping slightly, it’s unclear whether the west will have to wait until 2018 for the Lady Layton game but we’ll keep you posted.
[UPDATE 14/4/2017 – Level-5 has confirmed that the game will be available on iOS and Android devices worldwide in eight languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch, Korean, and Japanese) on July 20. The game still does not have a western release date for 3DS.
The company also said that the Lady Layton game has received a slight name change and is now known as Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy.]
[UPDATE 27/4/2017 – Level-5 has now confirmed that Lady Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy will be released on Nintendo 3DS in the west sometime in fall. A more specific release date was not provided.]
As fans wait for the Lady Layton game to head west, though, several other games featuring female characters will be headed to Nintendo consoles in the meantime.
One of these is Splatoon 2, the colourful third-person shooter that’s headed to Nintendo Switch. When it arrives on the console on July 21, it will feature playable female characters (including girls of colour) who can be customised with different outfits and hairstyles. Some of these, along with gameplay from the Salmon Run game mode, can be seen in the trailer above.
Nintendo also confirmed the release date for Nintendo Switch fighting game ARMS. Arriving on June 16, the game has a roster of different characters with different abilities such as being able to turn into clouds of dust and dart out the way, being supremely tanky and zipping about in a mech suit like Overwatch character D.Va. Newly announced female character Minmin can be seen in the trailer above.
And finally, Nintendo 3DS RPG Ever Oasis got a release date too. Ever Oasis is one of the games with female protagonists that we are most looking forward to this year and we’ll finally be able to get our hands on it on June 23. How exciting.
