Tactical JRPG Children of Zodiarcs gets a PC and PS4 release date. Developer Cardboard Utopia also reveals a brand new trailer for the game showing off its turn-based combat and its deck-building gameplay.
Children of Zodiarcs became the most successful Square Enix Collective project ever after raising hundreds of thousands of dollars on Kickstarter. It was also featured on our list of games with female protagonists we’re looking forward to.
Children of Zodiarcs Release Date Announced
Developer Cardboard Utopia confirms that Children of Zodiarcs will be released on Windows PC and PS4 on July 18. In a Kickstarter update the developer also notes that the Mac version “will be coming out a bit later,” saying that it will keep backers posted on the Mac beta as it will need their help in testing the game.
Recognising that the release date announcement has been a long time coming and that the game has missed its initial spring 2017 window, Cardboard Utopia explains that this is “mostly due to a slightly longer testing and debugging period than we anticipated, but we think it was absolutely worth it in the end.” The game is “now so much more polished, and runs smoothly on so many machines,” says the developer.
To celebrate the long-awaited news and perhaps to thank fans for their patience, a brand new Children of Zodiarcs trailer has also been released. It shows female protagonist Nahmi and her friends in action as they fight back against the oppressive reign of the Toran Empire, a figure which uses “arcane” machines called the Zodiarcs to leave the poorest of Torus city suffering.
The trailer also offers a brief look at the game’s tactical elements. It combines turn-based combat with deck-building to craft playstyles suited to each player, while dice throwing is used to “empower” attacks. Players can even craft and customise their dice, says the trailer, which throws yet another strategic element into the mix.
